World Polio Day 2025

Date: October 25, 2025Time: 10:00pmLocation: Durumi IDP Camp, Area 1, FCT Abuja

The World Polio Day Awareness Medical Outreach, organised by Heal The World, was held from Friday 24 to Saturday 25 October 2025 at Durumi IDP Camp, under the theme “Healing Our World: End Polio Now, Through Environmental Stewardship.”

The outreach was organised to commemorate World Polio Day while addressing the urgent healthcare needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs), particularly children and vulnerable families living in the camp.

What We Did

Over the two-day medical outreach, the Heal The World team provided essential healthcare services and community education, including:

  • Free medical check-ups for children and adults
  • Polio screening and sensitisation on routine immunisation
  • Distribution of essential medications
  • Health talks and one-on-one counselling sessions
  • Health and environmental awareness programmes focused on sanitation and hygiene

Why It Matters

Internally displaced communities often face increased health risks due to overcrowding, limited access to medical care, and poor environmental conditions. This outreach highlighted the strong connection between public health, disease prevention, and a clean environment, reinforcing the role of environmental stewardship in ending polio and preventing other communicable diseases.

Who Benefited

The programme primarily supported:

  • Children under five years of age
  • Pregnant women and nursing mothers
  • Displaced families and other vulnerable members of the community

Our Impact

The outreach improved access to basic healthcare services, increased awareness of polio prevention, and empowered community members with practical knowledge on hygiene and environmental cleanliness. By combining medical care with education, the initiative contributed to healthier practices and strengthened community resilience.

Looking Ahead

Heal The World remains committed to advancing public health initiatives that support vulnerable populations. Through continued advocacy, medical outreach, and environmental awareness, we will keep working toward a polio-free world and healthier communities.
